Welcome to my Portfolio page! My name is Demi Vitkute and I am a New York-based journalist, editor, and media & content strategist.

I am a graduate of Columbia Journalism School and Emerson College. In 2016, I co-founded The Urban Watch Magazine, now a fashion-focused online publication. I've written for The Washington Post, Inside Hook, MSN, WGBH News, and Promo Magazine among other national and international publications. 

A highlight of my career includes winning a grant from Columbia Journalism School’s Brown Institute for Media Innovation in 2020 to kickstart the Fashion Watch Tracker– a tool to record sexual abuse cases in the fashion industry.

Japanese Cafe Hires Paralyzed People to Control Robot Servers So They Have an Income

In a remarkable initiative, a cafe in Tokyo, Japan, is breaking new ground by empowering paralyzed individuals to earn an income and enhance their interactions with the world. How? They are remotely controlling robot waiters. Approximately ten people with diverse mobility-limiting conditions are at the helm of robot servers at the Dawn Ver cafe, each earning 1000 yen ($7.66) per hour – the standard rate for waiting staff in Japan.
